HENNESSEY, Okla. — The Hennessey Farmerettes presented the first-ever Billie Melendy Memorial Scholarship during the Hennessey High School Awards Program, honoring the legacy of a woman whose dedication and service left a lasting impact on both the organization and the community.
The inaugural $250 scholarship was awarded to Trent Choate during the ceremony, which recognized student achievements and community support for education.
The scholarship was established in memory of Billie Melendy, a devoted member of the Hennessey Farmerettes for more than 50 years. Throughout her decades of involvement, Melendy was known for her commitment to the organization, her willingness to serve others, and her support of local youth and community programs.
Presenting the scholarship were Billie’s husband, Dale Melendy, and daughter, Joyce Yost. Family members, students, school staff, and community members were on hand to witness the special presentation and celebrate both the recipient and the legacy behind the award.
The Billie Melendy Memorial Scholarship will serve as a lasting tribute to her years of service and dedication while helping support future Hennessey graduates as they pursue their educational goals.
The Farmerettes hope the scholarship will continue to honor Melendy’s memory for years to come by recognizing students who demonstrate the values she exemplified throughout her life.
