Joyce Ayree Jones left us on June 26, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Joyce was born October 9, 1943, in Lowell, Wyoming to Alva Augusta “Babe” Jones and Ethel Elvira (Sloan) Jones. The family moved to Wyoming during WWII to work in the oil fields and then moved to Hennessey a few years later where Joyce would spend the rest of her childhood. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 10:00 at the Hennessey Cemetery Pavillion. Cremation arrangements by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.
Joyce was an amazing Mom, MeMa Joyce, and Nana who loved her family dearly and unconditionally. Joyce was a dedicated homemaker and “kids’ taxi” driver for years. Over the years, Joyce also became a loving second mom to many. She had a passion for nature, especially her extensive collection of treasures and shared that passion with others. Later in life Joyce got her physical therapy assistant degree from OCCC.
She is survived by her son Jack Choate (Darla), daughter Denise Beatty (Karl), son Phillip “Babe” Choate, grandchildren Kacy Hays (Brandon), Jacob Benedict (Ronda), Lauren Merrifield (Zac), Ashley Meek (Kevin), Brandon Dewberry, Abby Chaote, Lily Choate, great-grandchildren Kalle, Zoey, Brayden, Jaxson, Michael, Hunter, Ava, Keaston, Ana, Owen, Drew and Nellie, and her sister Patsy Kirtley, Nieces, nephews and cousins. Many others held a special place in Joyce’s heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alva and Ethel Jones, brother Bill C. Jones, sister Valeria Jo Mott and daughter Nelly Jo Choate.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Public Broadcasting System (PBS) or Hennessey Public Library with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.
