House plants was the theme of the Fall County Council meeting of OHCE members Oct 20. 26 members plus a guest, OSU Horticulturist, Courtney Keck, were greeted by a room full of house plants and stumps that belonged to the host group, the Hennessey Farmerettes. From the registration cards to the devotion and refreshments, plants and veggies were in the limelight. There was a large box that was filled to the top of items for the HUGS + Coats County Project for the Toyland Christmas project.
Debbie Winters, President, presided and Loretta Kretchmar, Vice President, led the Flag Salute. Ashley Cowan Neal, Secretary and Jan Wittrock, Treasurer, gave their reports. The group elected Pansy Wheeler as the Vice President and Kathy Kadavy as Secretary for the next 2 years. County Educator, Lindy Peterman, also reported on activities since the Spring Council and the upcoming Reality Dollar Check and other projects up to the State Convention next July. She also installed the new officers.
Neal was recognized for winning State OHCE Member of the Year for 2025 as well as writing the winning report for the Queen Bees in Leadership Development. Wheeler won third in State for her State Project report on County Christmas activities.
Keck gave a lesson on house plants and tips for new plant owners, such as “Just wash the leaves of your plants with a soft rag and plain water. You don’t need any special product to make them shine!”. Instead of a few door prize winners, everyone present was a winner and got to take home a potted plant, plus several Farmerette members had started plants to send home with those who wanted them.
