Construction of the new Kingfisher County District 2 shop and office facility is getting closer as county officials have opened bids and selected several contractors for the project.
The new facility, which broke ground earlier this year, will replace the district’s existing shop and provide updated workspace for county employees, equipment, and administrative operations.
District 2 Commissioner Mike Sparks said the county is taking a different approach to managing construction. Rather than hiring a traditional engineering firm to oversee the entire project, the county is using a Construction Manager method, a first for the county, with the goal of reducing costs while maintaining oversight of the work.
Sealed bids have been opened and contracts awarded for several major portions of the project.
Contractors selected include:
– Concrete: Daniel Construction
– Electrical: Farmers Electric
– Plumbing: Dow Plumbing
– Heating and Air Conditioning: Harmon Heat and Air
– Interior Wood Framing: Jeremy Beaman, 7B Construction
Concrete and plumbing work are expected to begin in approximately two weeks, moving the project into its next major phase.
The contract for erecting the steel building has not yet been awarded, and officials are currently gathering quotes for that portion of the work.
With the steel already delivered and several major contractors selected, the new District 2 facility is moving from planning into construction.
