There’s a reason Don Hightower is passionate about what he does, and it started long before he joined AirMedCare Network.
Spend a few minutes talking with Don and you’ll figure out pretty quickly that he likes people.
He’s warm, easy to talk to, quick with a laugh, and the kind of guy who can probably find something in common with just about anyone. But when the conversation turns to his work with AirMedCare Network, there’s a reason he takes it seriously.
Don was born and raised in Oklahoma City, and his path to AirMedCare Network started with something personal. Years ago, he experienced firsthand just how expensive an air ambulance flight could be. At the time, he didn’t even know a company like AirMedCare Network existed.
So when he later learned about AMCN and its mission, it caught his attention.
“I was curious about what the mission was because I had an incident and wasn’t even aware that the company existed. Once I found out, I wanted to be a part of spreading the awareness.”
So what exactly is AirMedCare Network?
In simple terms, it’s a membership program designed to help protect members from out-of-pocket costs if they’re transported by an AMCN participating air ambulance provider. One membership can cover eligible members of the household, and it is not health insurance.
For Don, that’s the part he wants people to know about before an emergency happens, not after.
That personal experience is a big part of why Don enjoys what he does today. He meets plenty of people who are exactly where he once was, they simply didn’t know this kind of membership existed until someone told them about it.
And for Don, that conversation isn’t about trying to scare someone into thinking about the worst-case scenario. It’s about making sure people know what options are available before they ever find themselves needing one.
Especially in rural Oklahoma, where getting to the right level of medical care can sometimes mean traveling a long way, Don believes it’s a conversation worth having.
But there’s plenty more to him than work.
When he’s off the clock, family is a big part of Don’s life. He has a son, two daughters, and twin grandbabies — a little boy and girl who live in Texas. Whether he’s making the trip down there or they’re coming to visit, he enjoys the time they all get to spend together.
And when Grandpa duty isn’t calling? You might find him riding a motorcycle, playing golf, heading to church, finding somewhere with good food, or, as Don puts it, simply “doing whatever is fun.”
That might be the easiest way to sum him up.
Don enjoys people, enjoys life, and genuinely wants the people he meets to have information that could someday matter to them.
