NEW TREES FOR PARK

Members of the Hennessey First United Methodist Church spent Saturday, March 9thplanting 6 new trees in the church park located at the corner of E. Second and S. Cherokee Streets. The park has a large elm tree located in the middle of the park but it is slowly dying. The project is themed as “Planting a tree for those who come after me.” The new trees planted are Caddo Maples and were donated by a parish member.

According to the OSU Extension office website the Caddo Maple is quite tolerant of high pH soils, extreme heat, and drought conditions commonly found in western Oklahoma. It can reach 30’ to 50’ tall and is a beautiful medium to large shade tree.  Because they were planted on the south side of the park they will provide excellent shade when mature.
