The All About Hennessey POST Features students from the Hennessey High School intern program each week. This week’s student is Lilian Rodriguez.
Lilian Rodriguez is a senior at HHS and is interested in becoming a dental assistant. She is currently an intern at Kingfisher Family Dental and Implant Clinic.
Lilian was born in Kingfisher and has lived in the Hennessey area all her life. She has been an HHS cheerleader for the last four years; in her sophomore year, she was a member of the yearbook staff. In her free time, she enjoys experimenting with recent trends in makeup.
Lilian’s grandmother was a dentist in Mexico. Her grandmother always told her that teeth are the most important thing a person should take care of. Lilian never forgot that, and through the years she contemplated becoming a dentist. However, in her sophomore year, she decided to become a dental assistant instead.
Lilian has a group of hygienists that are working with her. Cydnie, Morgan, and Gracie take turns sharing their knowledge with Lilian, and the dentist, Kyle Hendrix, also fills in with more detailed information about the job. Lilian is assisting with setting up the instruments for the dentist and the trays for the hygienists. She has become familiar with the process of X-rays, but her favorite thing to observe is a tooth extraction. She is amazed at how the tooth can remain in one piece when it comes out.
The whole team at Kingfisher Dental & Implants feels like a family to her. She shared that they have made her feel comfortable and she is so thankful for the opportunity to learn from them. She also wanted to share that her older sister, Evelyn Robinson, has always been her inspiration. Evelyn was a first-generation college student in the family and she is currently a teacher at HMS as a reading and intervention teacher.
After graduation, Lilian plans to attend Northern Oklahoma College to take some basic classes and then enter the Dental Assisting program offered at Autry Technology in Enid.
Lilian is part of the Hennessey School Career & Internship Program. This program, directed by Kim Hallmark matches students with business allowing them to experience real-life day-to-day operations in a career field they have an interest in.
