The Hennessey Rodeo Grounds came alive Friday and Saturday nights, August 21 and 22, as the Hennessey Round-Up Club hosted its annual rodeo, bringing cowboys, cowgirls, families and rodeo fans together for one of Hennessey’s longtime summer traditions.
The stands filled with spectators ready for two evenings of rodeo action. The weekend featured a full lineup of traditional events, including mutton bustin’, ranch bronc riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, junior and open barrel racing, team roping and bull riding. Younger rodeo fans also had opportunities to get in on the fun with the calf scramble and greased pig contest.
From the youngest contestants testing their courage in mutton bustin’ to experienced competitors racing the clock or trying to stay aboard, there was plenty happening in the arena throughout both nights.
But putting on a community rodeo takes more than the competitors in the arena. Behind the scenes, volunteers and local organizations helped keep everything running.
The Hennessey Lions Club was hard at work in the concession stand Friday and Saturday, serving food and drinks to the crowd throughout the rodeo. With spectators filling the grounds and plenty of hungry rodeo fans stopping by, Lions Club members stayed busy both nights.
The concession stand is just one example of the community involvement that has helped make the Hennessey rodeo a local tradition year after year.
The annual event, organized by the Hennessey Round-Up Club, continues to give local families a chance to gather at the rodeo grounds, visit with friends and neighbors and enjoy a piece of Oklahoma’s western heritage right here at home.
For two nights, the arena lights were on, the stands were full and Hennessey once again showed its support for the cowboys, cowgirls, volunteers and community organizations that keep the rodeo tradition going strong.
