Meet the people behind Community State Bank- Hennessey.
It’s a good thing she was asked twice.
Back in 1999, Community State Bank in Hennessey was just getting started when Tim Riddle asked Karen Beaman if she wanted to come work at the new bank. At the time, she was working as a secretary for an oil company, and banking wasn’t anywhere in her plans.
So, she told him no.
Tim came back and asked again. This time Karen thought, “You know, why not?” More than 25 years later, she’s pretty glad she changed her mind.
Karen joined CSB shortly after it opened in Hennessey and today serves as Assistant Cashier, although when asked what she does, her answer was probably a little more accurate: “I do everything.”
Over the years, Karen has gotten to know a whole lot of customers. She enjoys opening new accounts, meeting new customers and being able to help when someone comes in with a problem that needs solved.
That’s also one of the things she appreciates most about working at a community bank. After all these years, she knows her customers, their families and plenty of familiar faces around town.
Karen was raised right here in Hennessey. She and her husband, Gary, have been married 52 years and have two sons, Jeremy and Ryan, and seven grandchildren. When she’s not at CSB, there’s a good chance you’ll find her watching one of those grandkids play ball.
Her faith is also a big part of her life. Karen serves as a cook at Falls Creek and is the nursery director at First Baptist Church, something she enjoys because it gives her another opportunity to serve the Lord.
And there’s one piece of advice from her mom that Karen has carried with her through the years: “If you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.”
After more than 25 years in banking, Karen has some advice of her own too: Be careful with your account information. Scammers are getting better every day, so be aware and don’t be too quick to give your information to someone.
From telling Tim “no” to more than 25 years at CSB… Good thing he didn’t take her first answer.
