HENNESSEY TRUSTEES ADDRESS STREETS, PAVILION AND BOARD VACANCIES
The Hennessey Board of Trustees met Tuesday, September 8, with street improvements, the town pavilion and two vacant trustee seats among the main topics.
Trustees approved a $273,529 pay application to Rudy Construction for ongoing street reconstruction. Of that amount, $205,146 will come from ODOT grant funding, with $68,382 coming from the town’s restricted street funds.
The board also approved a $10,490 electrical project for the town pavilion. Farmers Electric will install a 200-amp service designed to handle the pavilion’s needs during construction and provide power for events, including connections that could be used by food trucks. The system can later be upgraded as the pavilion project develops.
A lengthy discussion centered on the two trustee seats formerly held by Harold Shaw and David Jones. The town had planned to place the vacancies on the November ballot, but the County Election Board, acting on guidance from the State Election Board, determined the special election could not proceed because of statutory timing requirements.
Town Attorney Jared Harrison explained that the board may have the option of appointing trustees until the regular municipal election in April, when five trustee seats are expected to be on the ballot. Trustees asked Harrison to further research the town’s options before deciding how to proceed.
Town Administrator Tiffany Rowen also recognized town employees for their work responding to the recent major water-line break at the intersection of Highways 81 and 51.
