Air fryer basics took center stage for the Hennessey Farmerettes when they met April 9 at the First Christian Church in Hennessey. Members brought their own air fryers to share ideas and techniques, filling the counter with seven appliances for a hands-on learning experience.
Pansy Wheeler presented the lesson, demonstrating how to cook raw chicken and pork alongside frozen items like chicken nuggets for comparison. The group also sampled chocolate chip cookies made in the air fryer versus oven-baked, as well as tortilla chips, broccoli, and cauliflower. Wheeler provided printed recipes and helpful information gathered online along with OHCE resources. Members enjoyed tasting and comparing fresh and frozen preparations.
Prior to the meeting, members assembled Mother’s Day card kits for the Public Library Reading Program.
Following the lesson, President Paula Nicholson called the meeting to order, and Wheeler led the Flag Salute. Mary Curry shared a devotional titled “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” Roll call was answered with responses to whether members own and regularly use an air fryer. Minutes and the treasurer’s report were approved.
The Billie Melendy Scholarship committee reported one entry to date, with a deadline of April 24. Dot Miller shared updates from County Council and reminded members of the upcoming Red Carpet meeting on April 23, where Jamie Aikenhead will be honored as Outstanding Member of the Year.
During business, Margie McConnell resigned as secretary. Pansy Wheeler will assume the secretary role, and McConnell will serve as vice president. Miller volunteered to begin work on scrapbook pages. Kathy Patocka reported on the proposed toxic landfill, sharing a letter she wrote and encouraging others to do the same.
Marge Patocka will serve as hostess for the May meeting, and Maxine Helgeson invited members to come prepared to share a favorite Route 66 memory. Refreshments were served by Miller to 12 members.
