After months of frustration over deteriorating county roads, there is finally some progress toward getting them repaired.
Kingfisher County District 2 Commissioner Mike Sparks reports that preparations are getting underway for asphalt overlays on several roads in the Hennessey area, including Conoco, S. Mitchell, Exxon, E700 (Beard Blacktop), and Cemetery Road north of Highway 51.
Several of these roads were chip-sealed last winter but began failing prematurely, leaving residents frustrated and county officials working through the process of finding a permanent solution.
Crews are expected to begin sweeping and preparing the roads for the overlay work by the end of the week.
One section of Mitchell Road, beginning near north of Conoco Rd. will not be included in this project because separate grant funding has been secured for that section by the Town of Hennessey.
PUBLIC MEETING THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5
A community meeting will be held at Jimmy Berkenbile’s Gathering Place Thursday, November 5, at 7 p.m. Those that live in the affected area are welcome to attend.
Roy Counts of Haskell and Lemon Construction is expected to attend, along with county representatives, to discuss the road projects and answer questions from residents.
The meeting will give area residents an opportunity to hear about the upcoming improvements and the plans for getting these roads back into shape.
