Hennessey’s Dance Studio, RedLevé, kicked off its competitive season this past weekend, February 1st and 2nd, at the StarQuest Dance Competition. It was an exciting season opener with five group performances, seven solos, and three duets. In the world of dance competitions, performances are evaluated based on several critical criteria, including technical skills, choreography, costuming, musicality, and overall impression. Each dancer receives performance ratings, known as adjudications, that range from Ultra Platinum to Gold—similar to a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 scale. Performances were in the Nova Junior Entry Level.
Five solos received Platinum ratings, one High Gold, and one Platinum Plus that Piper Zielny earned, helping her secure 2nd overall in her entry-level. Dancers Anastasia Bohnstedt and Avileny Cabral achieved 1st place in their category styles but fell just short of the Top Overall placements. All three of their duets received Platinum ratings and placed 1st in their category styles. Duets performed by Jacee Beaman and Piper Zielny, as well as Aleissa Cabral and Anastasia Bohnstedt, earned 2nd place overall in their entry levels.
In group performances, four of them received Platinum ratings, and one earned a Platinum Plus. Team A won 1st place in the Hip Hop category and landed 4th place overall, also receiving 1st in costume. Their large group Jazz routine, which included both teams, finished in 4th place overall. Additionally, Director Sadye Cabral received a studio award for Committed Characterization.
It was a fantastic season opener, with many more competitions to look forward to throughout the summer. Good luck, RedLevé Dance!
