What a week! School is out for the summer! Ursala made one final appearance in Mrs. Hagar’s pre-k class. The first time Ursala visited was at the beginning of the school year, and boy, has there been a lot of growing and learning since then! I was excited that I didn’t scare any of the little ones this time!
Dressing up as different characters this year taught me a few things in pre-k class. For example, did you know that “octopus” starts with an “O”? They also have eight tentacles, although one little one only counted five on my costume! And if you see a red octopus in the water, swim away fast because that guy is mad!
I also learned how to make monkey bread using three convection ovens without blowing a fuse. But the one lesson that has really stood out in my mind is when Mrs. Hagar asked everyone if they were listening through their noses or through their ears. If she thinks you’re not paying attention or following directions, she will call you out. I made sure to pay attention!
After lots of hugs and goodbyes, I left the little ones hoping they had as much fun during my visits as I did. My next outing this week was to a T-ball game. My three-year-old friend Joe had his first game, and you could tell he had practiced and was ready! He made it to first base, standing in his Flash comic book character stance, hands out, one foot on base, ready to run with his tongue sticking out to the side.
I noticed both teams were from Okarche, and I realized there are a lot of people with the last name Grellner living there. Ginny, Joe’s mom, who also has the last name Grellner, kept the bench organized and the lineup ready to bat. Everyone knew when their turn was, and of course, they all cheered for whoever was batting. By the way, Effie, who is another Grellner and Joe’s big sister, hit a home run! I can’t tell you which team won because I was cheering for whoever was at bat!
But the best part of the game was the treats afterward! I mean, that’s what everyone was really there for! Saturday morning cartoons have nothing on T-ball! The adults will blink, and all these little ones will be graduating. In the meantime, I have one question for the adults: Do you listen through your nose or do you listen through your ears? Have a great summer!
