Changing the mindset of resolutions.

Levi Lusko recently shared an inspiring thought on his Instagram…”What if this new year you made resignations instead of resolutions?” What if quitting something is what you need to do rather than starting something? It makes a lot of sense. There are so many things that could make life better if we just quit them. You know what that thing is for you, and it most likely is a different “something” for all of us. The thing you need to quit could be easy to see. Maybe you need to quit smoking or quit drinking alcohol or quit overeating. You can quit that for yourself and your health, too. But what if the thing you need to quit isn’t so easy to see? What if it’s comparing yourself to others? A negative mindset/always assuming the worst or having a victim mentality. Maybe it’s holding onto anger or guilt. Quitting these things can impact your life and health just as much as the easy to see things in our lives. If you’re the science type or the “how-things-work type” research how negativity affects your brain and your body. It’s fascinating! And a great motivator for taking your thoughts captive to quit it

Levi Lusko suggests 4 things to quit this year:

  1. Quit assuming things will go wrong.
  2. Quit focusing on what you cannot control.
  3. Quit letting hardships define you.
  4. Quit focusing on other people’s lives.

“The Bible talks about this—casting off the old self, shedding what no longer serves us, and putting on the new (Ephesians 4:22-24). It’s not just about adding things to our lives; it’s about subtracting what weighs us down, distracts us, or holds us back from what God wants to do in and through us.” – Levi Lusko

In the 1940’s book Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry writes, “a goal without a plan is just a wish”. Let’s do more than wish for a better year for ourselves. Let’s plan on it. Take active steps to quit with your old mindset and habits and let’s walk into this new year with a plan. Maybe you need a twelve step program. Maybe you need therapy. Maybe you simply need to replace a bad habit with a good one. This one works great for battling negative thoughts. Anytime you think something negative- you stop and think of three positive things. If this is a deep-seated issue for you maybe take it a step further and write your positive things down in a gratitude journal. ~it would be especially rewarding to look back on in the next new year and see how far you’ve come! Note how we’re phrasing this as if we expect you to succeed! That’s positive thinking, y’all. We believe in its power and we believe in you! Also, we’ll be praying the Lord will lend you His strength to take on these tasks and grant you the wisdom to identify what you need to quit and how best to go about it.

One last quote for you —  from our mom, Beth Berkenbile (although she doesn’t take credit for the quote, it is one she has said often)… “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”.

Happy New Year. Good luck with your resignations this year! Let’s all quit together.  @okseasonedsisters
