Many Hennessey residents awoke to the tornado sirens sounding at about 5:56 am Monday, November 19th. Hennessey Fire, Kingfisher Emergency Management, and All About Hennessey were actively tracking the storm with spotters in the field as it rolled south of Hennessey, traveling to the northeast. Although there was no reported damage in Hennessey town limits, there was damage about 10 miles east of Hennessey. Thirteen OG&E poles were snapped off along Hwy 51,about 10 miles east of Hennessey. Bill Kusik’s farm, located ten miles east and 1-1/2 miles south on 2970 road, received damage to 2 barns, and several trailers were blown over.
A semi-truck was blown off the road south of Hennessey at about the same time on Hwy 81 at 690 Rd. Hennessey Schools delayed school opening till 10 am due to the approaching storms. The National Weather Service has not yet determined if it was an actual tornado or straight-line winds. The Melonette site reported 75 mph winds in the Hennessey area. Photos by AAH Jack Quirk
