FIREFIGHTERS VISIT SCHOOL

The Hennessey Firefighters spent Friday afternoon (October 11th) at Hennessey Elementary School teaching fire safety to the Pre-K through 4th grade students. Fire Chief Brandon Scott and several firefighters demonstrated what to do when there is a house fire and smoke fills the air. Using Garfield County’s smokehouse demonstration trailer, the children were taught to feel the door to see if it was hot and to crawl low to the ground to escape. The trailer used fog for this realistic demonstration.

The students learned to Stop, Drop, and Roll, what to do when the smoke alarm goes off, and all of the kids got to spray water from a firetruck. Sparky the Fire Dog was handing out fire hats and water bottles to all of the students. October is National Fire Prevention Month. Photos by Jack Quirk
