At about 8 am this morning the call went out to Hennessey Fire about a house with a lot of smoke coming out of the attic. Moments later, flames were spotted as the fire quickly consumed the roof. The home of Mike and Kamiee Smith is located at 2516 N 2850 Rd. Northwest of Hennessey was a total loss. The family had been building this new home for the past year and a half and was only lacking cabinets and flooring. A passerby noticed the fire and contacted the Smiths, Mike was sleeping in the adjacent shop building, that had been their temporary home.
When firefighters arrived the roof was fully engulfed in flames. They quickly worked to protect the shop building, as well as working the house fire. Hennessey called for help from Waukomis, Dover, and Drummond; all three sent water tankers and firefighters. Clay Vincent, with the county, brought an old Hennessey fire tanker truck to help with the water. Kingfisher County Emergency Management was also on the scene supporting the fire crews.
There were no injuries reported and all family members and animals were accounted for and safe. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Photos by AAH Jack Quirk
