It was a packed arena on both Friday and Saturday nights at the Hennessey Rodeo. Over 900 spectators Friday night and more than 1,100 on Saturday night. Although it was hot, people had smiles on their faces, enjoying the rodeo action. Both nights started off with Mutton busting for the kids, but the kids’ action didn’t end there. Throughout the night, they participated in “The Greased Pig” and Calf Scramble. It was nice to see familiar faces as rodeo participants. Several young men found the strength and courage to try Steer Riding. As they rode, their classmates in the stands cheered them on. Not to anyone’s surprise, that’s the cowboy way…supporting and looking out for one another. Both nights were filled with Ranch Bronc, Tie Down Roping, Breakaway Roping, Steer Wrestling, Open Barrels, Junior Barrels, Team Roping, and Bull Riding. The Bulls had the win both nights, with no one riding for 8 seconds.
The Hennessey Round Up Club has a few shirts for sale for $20.00 each. The shirt is in memory of Colonel Derek Grimes. It has 28 stars in honor of his 28 years of service. The phrase “I want to be a cowboy baby” came from Derek being a graduate of Oklahoma State University, a huge Cowboys fan, and also loving the rodeo cowboys. If you are interested in a shirt, please contact Lacey Copeland by phone or email at (405) 853-5126 or hennesseyrc@gmail.com. Story and pictures by AAH Shelley Muzny
