Where Are They Now? Julie (Choate) Luoma

Julie (Choate) Luoma was born and raised in Lacey, Ok ,by Justin and Debra Choate. She was the oldest of three children (Keith, deceased, and Shelley). Julie attended Hennessey Public Schools and graduated in 1995. Julie was voted most talented by the senior class. After graduation, Julie went on to OU, (we don’t hold that against her) and pursued a degree in education. Not to anyone’s surprise, Julie chose education- she had a great role model, her mom, Debra. Debra taught elementary school in Hennessey until retirement. Both Julie’s parents were great role models and continue to be great examples. Hardworking, accountable, friendly, and kind are just a few qualities shared. After graduating from OU in 1999, Julie took her first teaching position teaching second grade for the Dallas, Texas Independent School District. After a year, she moved to Colorado and taught third grade in Littleton. She then moved to Longmont, where she taught second and fourth grades. While being in the classroom and teaching, her talent of being able to relate to her students was amazing. Julie ensured every child knew they were valued and welcomed in the classroom. Students were held accountable and the standard was held high. Julie held her students to high standards, and herself to high standards as well. Attending continuing education classes, and staying in with children that needed extra help- Julie’s love for children always shines through. Julie holds two Master Degrees, one in Educational Leadership and one in Literacy. After four years as an Instructional Coach and STEM Coordinator, Julie is currently in her third year as an Assistant Principal.

Julie lives in Erie, CO, with her husband Jeremy and their four wonderful children. Life is crazy busy… but for an Assistant Principal, it’s just organized chaos. Julie loves spending time with her family. They love camping and the outdoors, hiking, Estes Park day trips and coming back home to Oklahoma. Julie is thankful for her small-town roots, that gave her the foundation to succeed in life. She may be in Colorado, but her home will always be Oklahoma.
