SURPRISE STORMS CAUSE DAMAGE

Wednesday night about 7 pm a series of severe thunderstorms popped up directly over Hennessey bringing high winds and torrential rains.  The storms escalated rapidly with no warning dumping several inches of rain in a very short time.  One of the thunderstorms generated a microburst creating very high winds in a concentrated area along South Mitchell Rd between 5th and 3rd street causing several power poles to lean.  Hennessey Police and Fire directed traffic around the area while OG&E crews replaced the poles.

Flooding occurred at 5th, 4th, and 3rd streets at Mitchell where drainage repairs were recently completed.  The Hennessey Board of Trustees voted at last week’s special meeting to approve additional funding to rebuild the section north of 3rd Street in front of 2 homes where the ditches were covered several years ago.
