Hennessey Firefighters responded to a grass fire Tuesday, September 13, at about 2:30 pm along the north ditch on Exxon Road. The fire was about ½ mile long between N2855 and N2850 roads. Rural mail carrier Darla Obrien said, “I pulled up on that and thought someone was around. I realized there wasn’t and called the Fire Department, then started putting it out with my feet, my shoes melted. But I saved the tractor and barn”. Several others showed up and started spraying the fire with a chemical sprayer until the fire department arrived. The fire got close to several buildings and damaged some farm equipment parked close to the road.
Hennessey Firefighters worked the fire with 3 brush trucks and their water tanker. Aaron Pitts, Hennessey Police Chief, assisted with traffic. The cause of the fire is unknown.
