The Red Carpet Country annual tourism conference was held in Alva on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus last Tuesday, the 23rd. Attendees from Hennessey included Teresa Oliver, and Cathy Howard, both with Hennessey United, and Jack Quirk with All About Hennessey/KJ FilmWorks.
The day-long event featured speakers from around the state who talked about tourism opportunities and ways to market to tourism. Topics included Barn Quilt trails and Star Gazing in Oklahoma. Former Mayor of Oklahoma City, Mick Cornett, spoke about “How to create a tourist destination .”Katie Richie with the Gathering Place in Tulsa spoke about Marketing on a budget, and Jack Quirk spoke about creating marketing videos and using QR codes. The event wrapped up with Stan Clark, owner of Eskimo Joe’s, telling the history and back story of the legendary Juke Joint in Stillwater.
In addition to the speakers, there were booths with information from most of the Red Carpet Counties. Red Carpet Country is a regional tourism organization representing 16 counties in northwest and north central Oklahoma.
