SEASON OVER

The Hennessey Eagles Boys Basketball 2021-22 season ended in the Area I opening round of the Class 3A State Championship Series, falling to the Community Christian (Norman) Royals (19-8, #14) by a final score of 55-38.  With all the game statistics being relatively even, the Royals outside shooting was the difference in the game, with Community Christian hitting on 10 made 3-Pointers to the Eagles 3.  This, coupled with the 28-21 edge in Rebounds, was all CC needed to advance to the 2nd Round, and send Hennessey home.

The 3 Eagles Seniors did all they could to prolong their final high school season, with John Perry coming off the bench with solid defensive play, his brother Timmie Perry knocking down 2 Three’s in the 2nd Half, and Cristian Rodriguez nailing a 3 of his own, adding 3 Rebounds, and 1 Blocked Shot.  James Sims had 2 Points with 3 Rebounds, 1 Steal, and 1 Blocked Shot.  Layton Choate hit his season average 8.0 points per game with 8 in this contest, 2 Rebounds, 2 Steals, and 2 Assists.  The Eagles’ leading scorer on the season led the Eagles in every offensive category in this game, as well.  Sophomore Jael Torres paced the Eagles with 19 Points, 8 Rebounds, 1 Steal, and 1 Blocked Shot.  Seth Simunek got on the stat sheet as well with 5 Rebounds for the Junior.

The Hennessey Eagles finish the season 15-9, with 2 wins over ranked opponents – 2A #18 Minco, and 3A #3 Alva in last week’s Regionals.  Head Coach Brady Page stands at 218 Wins, 71 Losses through is 11 Seasons as the Eagles HC, taking his teams to at least the Area Tournament for 6 straight seasons, and the 9th time to Area with 4 trips to State during that time.  With 4 of his 5 Starters returning next season, including leading big man Jael Torres, with Seth Simunek, Layton Choate, and James Sims, adding in the depth waiting in the wings in the like of Garrett Vinson, Ethan Munroe, Sebastian Gonzalez, and Weston Smith, among several others, the future looks bright for the Eagles, and preparation for a deep run in the 2022-2023 Basketball Season begins now.    Photos by Beth Curran
