I got a call late one afternoon from ABC News asking if I could run over to Oklahoma State University and cover “Orange Peel,” their big homecoming event where Jeff Foxworthy was the MC. When I got to the media center to get my credentials, the lady said, “Oh, your interview with Mr. Foxworthy is at 6 pm”. Apparently, the producer had arranged this but failed to let me know. I thought, no big deal, I have done many of these. I will be there with a dozen other networks. I will just hit record—no big deal.
When I arrived at the interview location, Mr. Foxworthy’s assistant came out and informed me that this was a solo interview, and I was it. I was kind of freaked out. I didn’t have any questions and had no idea what to say. I walked into the room and was met with a handshake and a big smile from one of the nicest guys I have ever had the pleasure to work with.
He helped me set up my lights, and we just sat and visited for about 30 minutes with the camera rolling. I have had the opportunity to interview many celebrities over my 35-year career in the film business, and I have to say, Jeff Foxworthy is a 10.
