Ruby Gibbons

HENNESSEY

The funeral for Ruby Gibbons, 81 will be at 10:00 AM Monday, August 16, 2021, at First Baptist Church officiated by Tim Taylor. Burial will follow at Hennessey Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Ruby was born in Wildhorse, Oklahoma on March 24, 1940, to Tom and Louise Gaylor Allen and died Friday, August 13, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Enid.

She married Leon Gibbons in Hominy on July 3, 1957.

The family moved to Hennessey in 1969. Ruby worked at Pool Well Service, 4T’s Grocery Store, Dales Quick Stop, and most recently at Turkey Creek Mercantile. She also bowled in a league for several years.

She obtained her GED after her children were grown and following that took Biology at Hennessey High School as an adult student in order to take a college course in anatomy and physiology to become an Emergency Medical Technician. She was a volunteer EMT for the Town of Hennessey for many years.

Ruby is survived by her husband Leon of the home; three daughters Debbie Gritz of Enid, Vickie Elmer of Montgomery, Texas, Connie Walterscheidt of Enid; one son Leon H. “Hoppy” Gibbons of Oklahoma City; two sisters Carolyn Huckleby of Oolagah, Thomasene Powell of Enid; nineteen grandchildren, and thirty-three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son James Gibbons, her granddaughter Tisha Gibbons, one brother, and one nephew.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund
