LAST EAGLES HOME GAME

A 14 day layoff between games can either leave a team rusty or rested. Let’s hope it’s the latter, with the Eagles and Lady Eagles slated to play 8 game over the next 2 weeks to close out the regular season. The Eagle Event Center opened its doors on Friday (January 29, 2021) for final home basketball game before the playoffs, hosting the Arrows of Tulsa CHEF (Christian Homeschool Educators Fellowship). The Eagles and Lady Eagles each posted victories in the final home regular season game, with the Girls winning 35-29, and the Boys 69-56.The rust was evident early for the Lady Eagles, especially on the offensive end, getting a hard-fought 14 points by the end of the first half. The Arrows’ Elysa Marks posted 10 points in the 2nd quarter alone, leading the visitors to a 7 point lead after 2. Things changed quickly in the 2nd half, keyed by outstanding defense from the home team. Our ladies only allowed 2 made field goals and 8 total points the rest of the game. Led by Juliana Macy’s 13 points, going 7 of 9 from the free-throw line, 8 rebounds, and 1 assist, the Lady Eagles won the 2nd half 21-8. Senior Gracie Mills added 8 points, with 7 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots. PG Kassidy Amburn had 6 points, including 1 made 3, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 assists. Also scoring was Yuridia Rios with 5, including 7 rebounds, and Noelle Pollard with 3 points, 4 rebounds and a steal. Larissa Macy and Harlee Dowell aided in the win off the bench, but did not score.In the nightcap, the Eagles hit the ground running, pounding the paint early through the hands of Jael Torres, who had 12 points in the 1st quarter, and finished with a team-high 24 points and 7 rebounds, before taking the 4th quarter off with the rest of the starters. After the Eagles’ dominance was established down low, then the long-range game was put on display, with 6 made 3’s: 2 each from Juan Dominguez and Cristian Rodriguez, and 1 each from Layton Choate and Sebastian Gonzalez. Dominguez finished with 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals; Rodriguez with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal, Choate with 7 points, 2 rebounds, and a steal. Other starters on the scoreboard included Wade Vinson with 8, 4 boards, 3 assists, and 5 steals, and Christian Tovar with 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Bench points came from Gonzalez’ 3 and Freshman Garret Vinson adding 2. Overall, the Eagles brought down 33 rebounds and 13 steals as a team. The Eagles’ victory was #200 in the coaching career of Brady Page, now 200-58, all at Hennessey. He and his Class 2A #6 ranked team will go for win number 201, and number 10 on the season, Saturday night versus the Class B #4 ranked Lomega Raiders at the Stride Bank Center in downtown Enid. The Lady Eagles will tip it off first at 7:20pm against the #1 ranked, undefeated Lady Raiders. -EagleVoice
