Rita Huntsberger, Child Nutrition Director at Hennessey Schools, was in a virtual leadership meeting last week with the State when she caught wind of a program that would offer free lunches. Rita got busy and rounded up all of the necessary data and submitted it in the nick of time for the Provision 2 program. Rita said, “This program will allow every student in the district regardless of income to have free lunch for 4 years.” Rita also said, “The state will review our numbers in November and if everything is good it will lock us in for 4 years.” Hennessey’s free or reduced lunches is currently at 92% and it is not likely to change soon so Rita is confident that the school will get the full 4 year free lunch program. Rita has been the Child Nutrition Director for about 10 years and it is her job to keep an eye out for programs like this. It is important that everyone still needs to apply for the free or reduced lunch program this year so the school has the statistics to keep the program going.
