John Allen Mitchell was born Oct. 11, 1934, on a farm northeast of Dover to Charles E. and Clara A. Mitchell.
He passed away Friday, June 26, 2020, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 85. John graduated from Dover High School in 1952.He served two years in the United States Navy Reserve and two years of active duty. John married Kaye Bishop, his high school sweetheart and lifelong partner of 66 years, on May 27, 1954. They were blessed with five children: Teresa Lynn, Jeffery Scott, Carol Laniece, Michael Allen, who died in infancy, and Jon Eric.
John spent 30 years farming in a partnership with his brother, Ira B. Mitchell, before becoming a pumper until he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and sister-in-law Betty Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of the home; his brother; daughter Teri Swisher and husband Darrell of Kingfisher; son Jeff Mitchell and wife Vicki of Dover; daughter Carol Doyel and husband Jerry of Piedmont; son Jon Eric Mitchell of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew; two great-nieces and one great-nephew; and his coffee friends in Hennessey.
A graveside service is planned for 10:00 AM Monday June 29, 2020 at Oak Grove Cemetery with Ellis Weber officiating. Service arrangements are under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.
