Verba Jane Diedrich Vculek Obituary

MARSHALL

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be at 7:00 PM Friday February 7, 2020 for Verba Jane Diedrich Vculek, 95 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Hennessey. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM Saturday February 8, 2020 at St. Joseph’s with Rev. Ed Menasco as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Hennessey under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Verba “Verbie” was born April 20, 1924 on a farm east of Marshall to William and Emma Diedrich and passed away February 4, 2020 at Hennessey Care Center.


After graduating from Marshall High School, she started working for the Bank of Marshall and continued her career there for forty-five years.

She married Ernest Vculek on October 26, 1948 at St. Camillus Church in Marshall. They lived on the family farm and Verbie continued to live there following Ernest’s death until her health declined.

She was a member of St. Camillus Catholic Church of Marshall. She belonged to the Altar Society and was a Eucharistic Minister. She led the singing until its closing.

Her first solo at age 3½ was “Silent Night” in German on Christmas eve at the E & R Church. She said God blessed her with her voice. She sang at school functions, many organizations, weddings, and funerals.

She enjoyed growing flowers in the summer and needlework in the winter.

She will be missed by her daughter Pamela of Ohio; nieces Diane Petru, Ellen Price, Janell Ernce, and Debbie Wolff; nephews Marvin Kusik and Arlon Enmeier.

Verbie was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, parents William and Emma Diedrich; one sister Madonna Enmeier; nieces Dorene Horstman and Sharon Long and nephew William Enmeier.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Calvary Cemetery, Hennessey or Marshall Cemetery South with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
