After nearly six years in business, Hennessey Mercantile owner Stacy Cline has announced the difficult decision to close the business and offer the Mercantile for sale.
Cline created the Mercantile out of her love for Hennessey and a desire to give the community a special place to gather, shop, celebrate and feel at home. What began as a vision for a local gathering place grew over the years to include a coffee shop, boutique, event room and beauty shop.
For Cline, it became much more than a business.
“This building and business have been a true labor of love,” she said. “I am incredibly proud of what it has become and deeply grateful to every person who has walked through its doors, supported us, celebrated here, shopped in the boutique, or simply stopped in for a cup of coffee and conversation.”
As the Mercantile prepares to close, a going-out-of-business sale will be held Saturday, September 19, during Hennessey’s town-wide garage sale. Boutique inventory, tables, chairs and displays will be available for purchase.
Friday, September 25, will be the Mercantile’s final day of full service, including its final day serving lunch through Sparky’s Eatery. Cline is encouraging customers and friends to stop by, enjoy lunch, share memories and say goodbye to the place that has been part of the community for nearly six years.
The coffee and drink portion of Hennessey Mercantile will open once more for the Wine and Chocolate Festival. Following the festival, the Mercantile will be fully closed and offered for sale.
Cline said changes in life over the past several years helped lead to the decision.
“After a great deal of thought, I know it is time for me to step into a new season,” she said. “This was not an easy decision, but it is the right one for me and my family.”
While one chapter is ending, Cline hopes the building’s story is far from over. Her hope is to find new owners who see the same potential in the property and will continue using it as a place that serves Hennessey.
“The possibilities here are truly limitless, and I would love nothing more than to see it continue to grow and serve our town for many years to come,” Cline said.

Cline closed her announcement with a message of gratitude to the community that supported the Mercantile from the beginning.
“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for nearly six beautiful years of support, encouragement, friendship and memories.”
