It’s not every day you see someone hanging out 170 feet above Hennessey.
Tuesday morning, Aug. 11, Tyson Brack and Shea Winebruner with Chickasha Communications made the long climb to the top of the Hennessey water tower to repair a communications antenna.
Johnathan Brenner, who provided ground support for the crew, explained that the antenna had been bent and was no longer perfectly straight. The climbers made their way to the top to properly clamp and straighten the antenna.
The antenna is used for communications by the Hennessey Police and Fire departments and is also sometimes used by the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Department when deputies are working in the northern part of the county. Keeping the antenna perfectly vertical helps ensure it performs properly.
Tower work isn’t for those afraid of heights. Specialized climbers are trained to work hundreds of feet above the ground using safety harnesses, rigging and multiple tie-off points while climbing and making repairs.
For Brack and Winebruner, 170 feet is just another day at the office. For the rest of us, watching from the ground works just fine. Photos by AAH Jack Quirk
