Hennessey Back to School Bash Helps Hundreds of Students Prepare for the New School Year
The 2026 Hennessey Back to School Bash was another tremendous success as hundreds of local students and their families gathered Sunday evening, July 26, at Hennessey First Christian Church to prepare for the upcoming school year.
Families were able to pick up backpacks and school supplies, helping ensure students have the essentials they need for a successful start to the school year. In addition to the supplies, everyone enjoyed a variety of free food and treats, including pizza, hot dogs, cookies, and snow cones, creating a fun atmosphere for the entire community.
The celebration wrapped up with a free swim night at the Hennessey Aquatic Center, where families filled the pool to cool off and enjoy an evening together before school begins.
This year’s event was made possible through the generosity of the community and two successful fundraising efforts. Earlier this summer, Pizza Hut hosted a Back to School Bash fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the event. Another popular fundraiser, You’ve Been Flocked, brought plenty of smiles to the community as flocks of pink flamingos mysteriously appeared in front yards throughout town. Residents could make a donation to have the flamingos placed in a friend’s yard, and recipients could then donate to have the flock “migrate” to someone else’s lawn. The lighthearted fundraiser helped generate additional support for purchasing school supplies for local students.
The annual Back to School Bash continues to be one of Hennessey’s favorite community traditions, bringing together volunteers, businesses, churches, and families with one shared goal: helping local students begin the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed.
