The burnout competition has become a major part of the Hennessey Rev Up & Roll Out Car Show, drawing a crowd and plenty of tire-shredding participants every year. Recognizing the growing popularity, the Hennessey Town Board saw an opportunity and voted to build a brand-new burnout pad.
For those unfamiliar with a burnout competition, it’s basically the exact opposite of everything your dad ever told you about taking care of your tires… because they’re expensive.
In this case, the goal is simple, burn them up as long as you can. Bonus points if you manage to blow them up!
The original pad, built years ago by Buddy Daniel, was a modest 20-foot stretch of concrete. The new pad? A full 100 feet long and the entire width of the street. This upgrade was made possible thanks to Buddy donating his time once again, along with a major concrete donation from Croell Ready Mix.
Friday evening, April 10th the new pad got its first official test run, and let’s just say… it passed.
Tucker Goff volunteered his tire-shredding Chevy pickup for the honors, while Hennessey Firefighter Logan Macy stood by with a fire truck to wet down the start line, because what could possibly go wrong?
Tucker turned that green pickup loose and christened the pad in a massive cloud of smoke, carrying it all the way down the stretch. If the goal was to make an impression, mission accomplished.
The burnout pad is located at the intersection of W 1st and S Dunlap, right next to Pavilion Park.
The official burnout competition will take place during the car show on April 25, starting at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $5 per run, with all proceeds going back to the winners, along with a $1,000 prize pot.
Bring your ride, and maybe bring an extra set of tires, and leave your mark on Hennessey!
