The worldโs largest cowboy hat is finally getting a makeover.
Installed on the north end of Hennessey in February 2023, the 24-ft. x 32-ft., all-steel hat weighs in at 12,650 pounds. The Big Hat has been patiently waiting, standing tall but a little weather-worn, for a fresh coat of paint, and its day has finally arrived.
The Hennessey United Board has officially adopted the hat and is footing the bill to give it the finishing touch it deserves. Ron and Ronnie Arter of Eagle Services have taken on the task, which includes sandblasting, priming, and painting this oversized piece of western wear.
The color scheme includes โBronzeโ for the hat itself, a rich light tan, paired with โUmbra,โ a light brown for the hat band. The new look should have the Big Hat ready for plenty of selfies.
Work has already begun, starting with sandblasting, with paint to follow, weather permitting. So if you see the Big Hat looking a little dusty, donโt worry, itโs just getting ready for its big debut.
Scott Hajek joked, โNow we just need to find a big feather for the hat band!โ
The full story of how the hat got to this point will follow in an upcoming edition of the Hennessey Post.
