According to authorities, a Union Pacific train derailed late Monday night, December 29, just north of Dover. The derailment occurred shortly before midnight. A spokesperson with the cleanup crew said they were called out around midnight to respond.
The derailment happened between County Road 690 and County Road 700 along Highway 81 on private property. No damage to the property was reported, and there were no injuries.
A large cleanup crew was on scene Tuesday morning using heavy equipment to clear the tracks. As of 10 a.m., a spokesperson said the track was expected to reopen shortly.
County Commissioner Mike Sparks told the All About Network he received a call around 3 a.m. requesting the temporary closure of County Road 700 at the railroad crossing. County Road 700 has since reopened.
