The Hennessey Senior Center is entering a new chapter with changes in leadership and staffing aimed at streamlining operations and improving services for local seniors.
New Board Chair Teresa Dillon explained the new structure for the center. Shannon Miller will serve as the single on-site lead, managing both administrative and day-to-day operations under the direction of the board. Due to budget limitations, the board determined that combining the director and operations roles into one position was the most practical solution. Dillon noted that Miller will “handle everything from directing to cooking,” describing the position as a true “cook and bottle washer” role.
Miller brings extensive dietary and food service experience to the job, having worked in hospital and university kitchens, including the University of Arkansas and Mercy Homes. She also has a background in caregiving, giving her valuable insight into senior nutrition and menu planning.
Longtime staff member LaVon O’Brien will retire on Friday, October 31, but will continue to serve as an advisor to the board during the transition.
The updated board now includes Teresa Dillon, Teresa Helm, Pamela Joseph, Barbara Walters, and Shirley Coons, with LaVon O’Brien serving in her new advisory role.
Originally from Arkansas, Shannon Miller has lived in Hennessey for the past five years. Her husband works for Kingfisher County, further strengthening her local ties. The board expressed confidence that Miller’s combination of experience and community connection will help lead the Senior Center into a new phase of service and stability.
