A Saturday evening joyride turned tragic for a group of young friends near Dover when a 12-year-old was killed in a rollover accident involving a Polaris side-by-side.
According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, four juveniles were riding in the utility vehicle just before 5:30 p.m. about a mile south and west of town. The OHP reports stated the driver began spinning the side-by-side in a tight circle when it suddenly rolled.
The rollover trapped one of the passengers beneath the vehicle’s roll bar. The Highway Patrol confirmed the victim’s next of kin has been notified.
The report noted that none of the four riders, including the driver, were wearing seatbelts or helmets at the time of the crash. The other three juveniles were not injured.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol does not release the names of minors in its reports; the child’s identity has not been made public.
