Brandon Scott and Levi Copeland led the first-ever Student Athletic Trainer Camp on August 1–2, hosted at the local fire department. Both are state-certified instructors and brought professional-level training to students right in their own community.
The idea for the camp came from Marcy Pribyl, who was inspired after seeing her daughter, Jentry, travel three hours to attend a similar program. Determined to create a more accessible option, she teamed up with Brandon and Levi to bring the concept to life.
The camp cost $120 per student and drew participants from Hennessey, Guthrie, Garber, and Crescent. The first evening focused on CPR and AED certification, with 14 students in attendance. Day two featured hands-on training for 11 students, covering essential skills such as concussion protocol, C-spine stabilization, backboarding, weather-related injury management, and taping techniques taught by Coach H.
One key focus of the camp was communication, particularly with paramedics, a skill emphasized as critical for both athletic training and real-world emergencies.
Marcy hopes to make the camp an annual tradition and is working to secure sponsorships to help offset costs for future students. AAH, Shelley Muzny
