Thankfully Easter means more than cute bunnies and eggs. Easter is a reminder of new beginnings. Spring has sprung! Look all around in nature itโs undeniable. Green shoots are appearing in trees that had appeared dead. Grass is starting to green up. Even the lovely dandelions bring such joy! The promise of flowers are everywhere and soon we will see beautiful colors where all winter long it was just brown. This seems like a beautiful parallel to the true Easter story. While celebrating Easter with egg hunts and Easter baskets please donโt miss teaching your family about the true meaning of Easter.
Our sister in law, Rashelle, has a wonderful tradition with her boys over the years of making Resurrection Rolls and talking through the Biblical Easter Story. Here is a simple Resurrection Roll recipe for you to try yourself!
Resurrection Rolls
โขcrescent rolls (refrigerated or homemade- your choice)
โขmarshmallows
โขcinnamon & sugar
Separate the crescent rolls out. Sprinkle some cinnamon sugar mix over the top of the layed out crescent roll. Have your child place a big marshmallow in the center of the crescent roll and help them roll it up. Be sure to pinch all the sides closed to really enclose the marshmallow. Take this opportunity to talk about how Jesus died to pay for our sins so that we could go to heaven someday and point out that the marshmallow represents the body of Jesus being placed into the tomb. Bake the crescent rolls according to package directions and when done allow to cool enough to handle. Then call your kids back over and ask if they think the marshmallow is still there. Gently cut into it and show them that the marshmallow is gone โ! The tomb is empty! Jesus has risen!
Of course, knowing your children best you will know how to help this make sense to them but the parallel to Jesus no longer being in the tomb and the marshmallows being gone is a visual concrete object lesson. To ensure they know there is no trickery involved make sure they watch you place it in the oven and you can tell them to watch the rolls while baking as well!
Thank you, God, for your indescribable giftโฆ Jesus.
Happy Easter! Jesus is risen!
