Sergeant Christian Solis of the Hennessey Police Departmentโs K-9 unit, Kase, was recently gifted a protective vest by the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc. This bullet and stab-resistant vest was generously sponsored by Leah A. Beale of Oklahoma City, OK, and is personalized with the message โThis gift of protection provided by Leah Bealeโ.
Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc. is a charitable organization founded in 2009 with the mission of providing protective vests and support to law enforcement dogs across the United States. These vests, made in the U.S. and NIJ certified, have been instrumental in safeguarding the lives of K-9 officers. To date, Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc. has distributed over 5,472 vests nationwide, valued at $6.9 million, thanks to donations from individuals and corporations.
The program is available to K-9s in law enforcement who are at least 20 months old, actively on duty, and certified by relevant agencies. Even K-9s with expired vests are eligible for assistance. With an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K-9s in the U.S., donations toward the cause are essential. A tax-deductible donation of $985 can sponsor a vest, which costs $1800 and comes with a five-year warranty.
