Monday, March 4th was a touching moment as the memorial bench was unveiled at the first high school baseball game which coincided with what would have been Jarrett Smithโs 16th birthday. The entire Hennessey Eagles Baseball team, family, and friends stood on the field during a brief ceremony.
Preston Smith, Jarrett’s father, and Brandon McKay, stepfather honored their son’s memory by simultaneously throwing out the first pitch, symbolizing Jarrett’s enduring legacy and impact on all those who knew him. After the first pitch, everyone on the field released balloons in his memory.
A memorial plaque was placed in the outfield and a bench was placed at the field in Jarrettโs memory with the statement โLife doesn’t always go as you planned, if it did, your fourth hitter would always be up when the bases are loaded.โ
To honor Jarrett, his brother Weston wore Jarrettโs #4 uniform and the Pioneer team wore a decal with Jarrettโs #4 on their helmets. The final score was Hennessey 3, Pioneer 10.
