Your Hennessey Eagles faced off against the Watonga Eagles Tuesday night at home. The Lady Eagles came off a consolation bracket final loss against Watonga in the Three Rivers Tournament Saturday night. In a similar fashion to that game on Saturday, the lady eagles held a lead going into halftime led by the hot hand of Kadee Meeker. Kadee Meeker finished the game with her best performance of the season, a stat line of 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal. Unfortunately, the Lady Eagles lost their lead in the 2nd half due to the ultra-hot Aubrey Bridges who finished her night with 30 points, at one point making 4 straight 3s. The Katie’s, (Kadee Meeker, and Katie Kennedy) had a combined 33 of the Ladies 42 points. Katie Kennedy coming off a very good Three Rivers Tournament had a respectable: 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. The final score: Watonga Lady Eagles 59 – Hennessey Lady Eagles 44.
The boys, the number 3 ranked boys’ team in class 2A via OSSAA, had a shaky performance against the Watonga Eagles. The game started off incredibly slow, the boys eventually racking up 12 points at the end of the quarter. Following an impressive alley-oop slam dunk by Laron Whiteshield, who finished with an impressive 22 points and 3 dunks, the momentum was in the Watonga Eagles favor. What proved to be a difference maker was the defense by the eagles, led by Seth Simuneks incredible: 7 rebounds and 9 steals. Offensively, the boys relied on the big center Jael Torres who was the only eagle to score double-digit points, finishing with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and a block. The boys eventually went into a slugfest back and forth, but they pulled away following a Hunter Weber 3 from the corner (which was the first made for the Eagles, who went a combined 1-11 from beyond the arc), and 2 Layton Choate free throws that proved to be the dagger.
The final score: Hennessey Eagles 43 – Watonga Eagles 39
