Hennessey has earned statewide recognition for something many locals already knew, it’s a pretty safe place to call home.
According to a new report from SafeWise, Hennessey ranks 3rd safest town in Oklahoma, landing just behind Elgin and Hooker and ahead of communities like Hinton, Piedmont, Union City, and Weatherford.
SafeWise bases its rankings on crime data and an annual national survey of more than 5,000 people, measuring how safe Americans feel in their states and communities. While safety concerns across the country continue to shift, Hennessey’s strong showing highlights the benefits of small-town living and local engagement.
Oklahoma stood out in a good way. The state tied for 9th least worried in the nation, with just 39 percent of residents expressing concern about safety, placing it alongside states like Idaho, Minnesota, and Alaska, and far below high-anxiety states like California and Alabama.
For Hennessey, the ranking reflects a combination of community involvement, local law enforcement, and neighbors looking out for neighbors. It’s another reminder that while national headlines can feel heavy, life in Hennessey remains steady, connected, and safe.
In other words, not a bad place to hang your hat.
