The Hennessey Senior Citizen Center hosted a special dinner and come-and-go reception on Monday, November 24, to celebrate the retirement of Lavonne OโBryant.
Lavonne reflected on her years of service with the same steady practicality she brought to the job. โI started working at the center in 2017, and when the previous manager left, I kind of inherited the job,โ she said. One of her ongoing challenges was finding enough funding to keep the doors open. โJust in the nick of time someone would make a donation,โ she recalled. And when it came to fundraising, nothing beat the community fish fries that reliably packed the room.
After a decade of managing the center and keeping it stitched together through tight budgets and busy seasons, Lavonne is stepping into a well-earned retirement. Her work made a difference, and her community showed up to thank her for it. Photos by AAH Jack Quirk.
