The smell of hickory smoke and holiday spirit filled the air early Saturday morning, October 18, as the Hennessey Reserve Angels fired up their smokers for one of the town’s favorite traditions — the annual Christmas fundraiser.
By sunrise, 200 pork butts were sizzling away, tended by a crew of off-duty Hennessey town employees and police officers who traded their badges and paperwork for aprons and tongs. These volunteers spent the day seasoning, flipping, and perfecting each cut — and they’ll be back at it again tomorrow to make sure every one of them is smoked to perfection.
Thanks to generous donations from Seaboard Farms and the Oklahoma Pork Council, every penny raised from this event goes directly to the Reserve Angels program, which helps deliver Christmas gifts to families in need right here in the Hennessey area.
It’s a hometown effort that proves when this community fires up the smoker, it’s not just about barbecue — it’s about bringing joy to others.
