The Lacey Community Center received a welcome boost this week when Hennessey’s Masons, Coronado Lodge #56, presented a $2,000 donation to help pay for the building’s new roof. The presentation took place on Tuesday, October 7th, at the Mason’s lodge.
Last month, the Hennessey Community Action Team (CAT) hosted a fundraiser that brought in $9,000 toward the $11,000 repair project. The Masons stepped in to cover the remaining $2,000, ensuring the project could be fully paid off. Accepting the donation on behalf of the center were Treasurer Aaron Swart and resident Cathy Howard.
The roof repairs were completed several months ago, ensuring the building is ready for the upcoming winter season. The Lacey Community Center, formerly the cafeteria of the old Lacy School, located about ten miles west of Hennessey on Highway 51, remains a vital gathering place for the community. The school closed in 1968 after consolidating with Hennessey Public Schools, but the center continues to host regular events, including the ever-popular card parties held every other Thursday night.
The Hennessey Coronado Lodge #56 continues to be a major supporter of local initiatives, donating nearly $20,000 annually to meet community needs, with a special focus on helping children in the Hennessey and Dover schools.
