Kingfisher County District 2 Commissioner Mike Sparks announced on Friday, September 19, that multiple road improvements have been finished and reopened to traffic. The completed projects include:
- Dover Crescent Road (E730)
- Beard Blacktop (E700)
- Sheridan Blacktop (N2970)
Upcoming Overlay & Chip-Seal Projects
Sparks noted that more work is already lined up. Among the largest projects will be a two-mile overlay from the Cimarron River Bridge into Dover, funded through the county’s CED program. The work is covered 90% by federal and state grants, with taxpayers responsible for the remaining 10%.
The county will also be tackling several grinding and double-chip-seal projects, which require only a day or two of road closure compared to a month for full overlays. Planned areas include:
- A loop from Highway 81 and Conoco Road east to Mitchell Road, south to Exxon Blacktop, then back east to Highway 81
- Cemetery Road and Exxon Blacktop north to 7th Street
- E2840 north from Exxon Road
Dover Streets & Future Work
In Dover, Boundary Street, the town’s easternmost road, is slated as the final mile to be finished. The county also plans repairs on city-owned sections, including the north half of Conoco Road and the first two blocks of Boundary Street.
Looking further ahead, Sparks confirmed a new bridge project on Beard Blacktop has been approved for 2027. The bridge, located three-quarters of a mile west of Banner Road, will replace washed-out pipes that damaged the roadway years ago. Beard Blacktop is also set for new chip-sealing this fall, with traffic reduced to one lane during construction. Photos by AAN Jack Quirk
