Big congratulations are in order for Rachel Buford Black, Hennessey High School Class of 2012, who has been named to the 2025 NextGen Under 30 list in Healthcare.
Since 2011, the NextGen program has celebrated outstanding young Oklahomans making an impact across industries, and this year Rachel stands out for her leadership in healthcare and rural advocacy.
A Path of Service and Education
Rachel’s journey has been guided by a drive to serve others. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science from Oklahoma State University in 2016, followed by a Master of Public Health in 2017, and a Doctor of Health Administration from OSU Health Sciences Center in 2024.
Today, she works as Senior Manager of Value-Based Contracting Solutions for CVS/Aetna, designing programs that help doctors and hospitals deliver better care while keeping costs manageable.
Giving Rural Voices a Platform
Rachel’s recognition isn’t just about her corporate role — it’s also about her heart for rural communities. She has been a strong advocate for addressing invisible health neglect in rural women, combining her professional expertise with grassroots storytelling.
Through her project, Farm Girl Walks, Rachel blends her rural upbringing with conversations on health and wellness, reminding others that rural voices matter and deserve a seat at the table.
Looking to the Future
Rachel hopes to continue working at the intersection of healthcare and rural life. And while she’s already achieved so much, she hasn’t ruled out stepping into public service someday, possibly running for House District 59.
Reflecting on this honor, Rachel shares:
“I’m deeply grateful for the mentors who believed in me, my family who have always been my foundation, and the community that shaped me. Growing up here taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and looking out for one another, and I carry those lessons with me every day. This recognition is just as much theirs as it is mine.”
We’re proud to see a Hennessey graduate making such a meaningful impact in healthcare and beyond. Congratulations, Rachel!
