The Hennessey cross country teams traveled to Rogers State University on Thursday evening to compete in the Distance After Dark meet, where several athletes recorded personal-best times against strong competition.
In the Boys 5000m Open (2A–4A), senior Seth Sims led the Eagles with a 43rd-place finish, clocking 19:41. Asher Ward followed closely in 51st with a time of 20:14. Mauricio Gonzalez crossed in 73rd at 21:18, while Rogan Choate finished 85th at 22:00. Tryton Moreno and Brandt Beaman rounded out Hennessey’s lineup, running 23:39 and 24:24, respectively. As a team, the Eagles placed 11th overall with an average time of 21:22.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Eagles showed depth in the 2 Mile Run Open (2A–4A). Emma Copeland led the charge with a 13th-place finish in 12:45. Jocelyn Matousek was close behind, placing 19th in 13:01, followed by Julianne Matousek in 24th at 13:17. JoHanna Matousek crossed in 15:33, with C’Anna Marin (16:11) and Faith Martinez (16:47) completing the varsity squad. The Lady Eagles finished 7th as a team with an average time of 14:09.
It was a strong outing overall, as many Hennessey athletes set new personal records under the lights. The Eagles and Lady Eagles will look to build on their progress as the season continues.
